Bizerba Announces BPA and BPS-Free Thermal Label Solutions Ahead of Proposition 65 Regulation Changes

12/19/2024

| Bizerba, a global leader in weighing, slicing, and labeling technology solutions, has announced that all direct thermal materials used in its label production will be free of Bisphenol A (BPA) and Bisphenol S (BPS) by January 1, 2025. This proactive step ensures compliance with California's Proposition 65 regulations, providing customers with a seamless path to meeting regulatory requirements without the need for additional product labeling.

Proposition 65, formally known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, mandates that businesses warn Californians about potential exposures to chemicals that can cause cancer, birth defects, or reproductive harm. Effective January 1, 2025, California businesses must include warnings on products labeled with materials containing BPA and BPS, chemicals commonly found in direct thermal label coatings.

A Commitment to Compliance and Convenience
Recognizing the growing importance of regulatory compliance and customer convenience, Bizerba has taken the initiative to reformulate its direct thermal labels to eliminate both BPA and BPS. This ensures that customers using Bizerba labels are not required to add warning labels to their products, maintaining clean, professional packaging while adhering to strict safety standards.

“Our transition to BPA- and BPS-free thermal materials demonstrates Bizerba’s commitment to supporting our customers in meeting their regulatory obligations effortlessly,” said Aaron Garry, CEO of Bizerba North America and UK. “As an industry leader, we prioritize safety, sustainability, and innovation to meet the ever-evolving needs of the market.”

A Legacy of Labeling Excellence
Bizerba’s Business Unit Labels (BLS) and its subsidiary Bizerba Tekno Label Inc. (BTL) have been at the forefront of innovation in label manufacturing, offering high-quality, customized solutions tailored to diverse industries. With production facilities in North America, including the contemporary plant in Avondale, Arizona, Bizerba delivers premium pressure sensitive, linerless, and specialty labels while emphasizing sustainability and efficiency.

Brian Evans, President of Bizerba Label Solutions, highlighted the significance of the announcement: “This transition aligns with our broader vision of providing solutions that combine quality, sustainability, and compliance. It underscores Bizerba’s leadership in the North American labels market.”
